Thailand's 5G coverage is expanding fast. We tested four eSIM providers across Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Ko Samui β here are the results.
Thailand has undergone a mobile network transformation over the past few years. AIS, True Move H, and DTAC (now merged with True) now offer 5G across Bangkok and major tourist areas, with solid 4G coverage reaching even the more remote islands.
Coverage on the islands
Ko Samui and Phuket have excellent coverage β you'll get fast LTE or 5G on the beaches and in town centers. Smaller, less-touristed islands like Ko Lipe or Ko Tao have more variable coverage; we recommend downloading offline maps before you hop on the ferry.
How much data do you need?
Thailand is a social media-heavy destination β the temples, street food, and sunsets practically demand it. Figure 500MBβ1GB per day for a typical tourist (maps, photos, social). Backpackers staying in hostels with good WiFi might get by on 5GB for a 2-week trip. Beach resort-goers without reliable hotel WiFi should jump to 10β15GB.
Bangkok-specific tips
Bangkok's BTS Skytrain and MRT stations have WiFi, but it's notoriously slow. Rely on your eSIM for navigation and messaging while commuting. Data speeds in central Bangkok are excellent on any major carrier.
